It owes its name to the fact that, since the 20th century, it was established as the station for the horse-drawn carriages that used to tour the city as a tourist attraction. During colonial times it was the main point of sale of slaves. Today it is one of the tourist attractions of the city because of the traditional sweets that can be found in the famous portal of sweets and for being the main access point to the historic center through the clock tower.

Traditional horse-drawn carriages have being replaced by electric carriages.
On one of its sides is one of the most emblematic bars in the city, ideal for salsa lovers: Donde Fidel.
